STATEMENT
Sculpture has been my lifelong passion, pursued with my heart, head, and hands. It appeals to me because of the “thereness” of sculpture, the fact that it exists in three-dimensional space and can be circumnavigated and touched. I began with clay and loved the feel of it in my hands and the ability to mold and manipulate it. When I experienced welding, the excitement and power of using a torch to transform metal and fabricate sculpture became an obsession. Now I complete sculpture using both clay and metal separately, and occasionally other media such as stone, wood, papier maché, and mixed found objects. Most of my work in metal is semi-abstract or geometric and in clay it is more realistic. In the past, my artwork has not been aligned with causes but now I am beginning to think of ways to express my concern with environmental degradation and disaster caused by global warming, waste, and pollution.
